Pull Apart Oat Roll Recipe

When I saw this recipe for pull apart oat rolls on Money Saving Mom, I knew I had to try it right away! Some recipes just jump out at me, and I feel like I need make them immediately. This were in the oven the day the recipe was published, and they did not not disappoint. The recipe was written for a bread machine, but I don’t have one, so I adapted it for use without a bread machine.

Oatmeal Rolls-21

These are now one of my go to roll recipes. They are, of course, delicious and are a little more healthy than traditional dinner rolls. Each roll has 126 calories, so eating one or even two doesn’t break the calorie bank. I like to pull one apart, put deli meat and cheese on it, and heat in the oven to get the cheese melt-y, and eat it like a sandwich.

Pull Apart Oat Rolls

by Laura Smith

Ingredients (24 rolls)

  • 2 ¼ cups warm water
  • 1 ½ Tbsp yeast
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 1 ½ cup quick or old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Quickly add butter and brown sugar. Stir for a minute or two until the butter is mostly melted and the brown sugar is dissolved. Add honey and mix. Add the oats and stir. In a separate bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, and salt. Add flour mixture to wet mixture and stir to incorporate.

Spray a piece of wax paper with cooking spray, and dump dough onto it. Then spray the inside of the bowl and flip the dough back into it. Cover bowl with wax paper and a towel. Let rise about 45 minutes.

Divide the dough into 24 balls. I usually weigh the dough, so all my rolls are a uniform size. Place ball of dough into lightly greased 13×9 baking pan. They won’t quite be touching. Cover with a towel and let rise about an hour.

Bake in a preheated 350ºF oven for about 22 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy.
